Weekly Diversions

Bunny's ear infection is almost all gone! He is much happier - though he is very suspicious anytime we give him one too many treats. My home office now has a printer and scanner. Its pretty much done except for artwork and an ergonomic desk chair. Once everything is set, then I have the lovely task of tackling all my digital messes. T and I were able to spend Saturday together alone while his parents went on a day trip to conduct business on their rental property. Sometimes you forget the little joys of privacy!

Playing: T and I finished Star Wars: The Fallen Order. We are now playing Ghost of Tsushima.

Other Games:

  • Hand & Foot: A couple weeks ago I taught T's mom S to play Hand and Foot, a card game that I learned from my grandparents that we would play religiously anytime my family visited them in Texas. Its a great game for partners or singles, as well as kids ages 9+ (I know it says 13 on the rules, but I was playing this when I was 7). My family's personal variations included increasing and decreasing wild cards and 3's in the deck to suit whomever was playing (more 3's and less wilds increases difficulty).

Watching: King of the Hill Season 9 (first time watching) & Brooklyn 99 Season 3 (third time watching) & Fargo Season 3 (first time watching) -- all are on Hulu. Preparing to start watching Star Wars: The Clone Wars on Disney + with T.

Eating: I made Butter Pecan Turtle Bars thinking they would last the week, but they made it less 48 hours. The recipe is from my family recipe cards shared by my first cousin once removed aka my grandmother's sister's daughter.


  • Spray a rubber spatula with cooking spray/olive oil before spreading the chocolate chips. It will keep them from sticking.

  • Pop the pan in the fridge after spreading to help the chocolate set faster.

  • Once set, cut into bars. You can store at room temperature in a sealed container for up to 7 days. You can also freeze!

I made a lemon tart on Sunday. Similar to the Turtle Bars it went fast. It was too refreshing! I honestly could have eaten the whole thing by myself. I am trying to find lighter, summer flavors for desserts now that the heat has set in. Chocolate is now almost too heavy to eat.

Here is the recipe to make the crust, and the filling. I used blueberries, raspberries, lemons, basil (you can switch it for mint!), and powdered sugar for decoration. I didn't candy the lemons before putting them on the tart (I ran out of steam), but here is a recipe for candied lemons so your guests can actually eat them.

Now that my art studio is mostly organized, I started painting again. Oh, the luxuries of a closed door (looking at you sweet kitty)!I did a couple oil painting experiments, and am starting on a larger commission which I hope to finish by mid-August.
